Enslaved by Ducks
12 journalers for this copy...
I'm a sucker for anything with Ducks in the title.
Not grabbing me, will not finish this one.
Moving RABCK. Reserved for Minerva101. Mailed 8/12/11.
5/9/14: Wow, I'm impressed this one has had such legs! Always a plus when something I didn't enjoy finds other readers who like it more.

This book arrived sometime this week while I was away in Ontario. It was nice to come home to a package!
Thank you sooooooo much, ghir! I've been trying to seek out this book for a while in used bookshops with zero success. I am adding it to Mt. TBR, which is quite sizeable, and it may take me a while to read and journal, but i will get to it eventually.
Thanks again and hope your move goes smooth!

I finally picked up this book to read and I completely loved it! Being the proud owner of 13 birds(3 of which are large parrots), 4 cats and 1 bunny, I can relate to many of the experiences in the book on many levels! I have a Timneh African Grey who is my lovey baby and a 29 year old Amazon named Fred - who is a girl - but calls herself a good boy. She has gender issues, but is such an awesome personality! The Grey in the book seems to embody my Grey and Amazon into one bird - Stanley Sue.
Lots of great little stories about the various bird and bunnies in Bob Tartes life.
Normally, I don't add Bookcrossing books to my permanent collection, but I can't let his one go yet - I am adding it to my PC in hopes that some of my children might want to read it and I know I will revisit this one.
Thank you so much for the wonderful RABCK, ghir!

I decided to share this one around my local bookcrossing group, so I am taking it to our Calgary Bookcrossing meeting at the Joshua Tree Cafe today.
I do desperately want this one back once it has circulated around our group - too great to wild release and, yes, I want my kids to read this one eventually......

Minerva101 loved this book so how can I go wrong with reading it? The cover is cute but I have noticed that I keep hearing the quack of an AFLAC commercial in my head...
I also admired the stamps inside the front cover of the book - attractive and effective with an economy of words!

I have not had any birds as pets; only a cat for less than a year when I was a teen, and then I spent a couple of years as the grudging primary caretaker of my daughter's two hamsters. I probably don't have enough 'pet experience' to fully appreciate the predicaments the author described but it was a funny story that reminded me of Stewart McLean's characters in The Vinyl Cafe stories.
Took the book to the Calgary BC Meetup today.
Picked up at the October meeting.
What a great memoir - so funny!! Passing this back at the Christmas party to the next person on the list.

Oh, I am so lucky to be the next reader! It looks charming and I am looking forward to being beguiled!
This book is to find a new reader at the May meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers at Cravings Market Restaurant.
Finally I am journalling the books from the May meeting. Life has been busy and I had quickly filed them in with the other books!!!
Guess I need to write this up before I forget!! The book was funny, frustrating (ie - you know the car crash is coming and you want to scream out the window - "NO - DON'T TAKE ANOTHER PET!!!!" But - the feeling is less strong as the book goes on and you realize how all these pets are impacting his life ain a positive way.
Bringing it to the April meet up of the Calgary BookCrossing group.
Took this home from the April BookCrossing meeting. The title got my attention and I'm looking forward to reading it.
I've had this book for a while and tried to read it but couldn't get into it. There are others on the list so taking it back to the group.
Taking this to the Feb BookCrossing meeting to be enjoyed by the next reader.
Picked this up at the February Bookcrossing meeting in Calgary.
I'll be bringing this book to the next Calgary Bookcrossing meeting.
Grabbed at get together
Loved it! I don't have direct experience with most of the types of pets they brought home to join their family, but I can appreciate all the unique personalities which each pet had. The stories made me smile, and also kinda ponder some of their decision making! I mean, at some point they seemed to have just abandoned practicality. I get being interested in wanting to add additional animals to your family, or coming across a case where one needs a home. But when you find one that already has a home I can't imagine asking those people if they'd give you their animal. (Though it was totally the experience in my house that when my dad would be like "no more pets," and my mom like/we were like "look at this one," there would be a new pet in the house).
All in all I thought they were well told stories, and some of the own personal issues the author dealt with was well done.
Thanks for the interesting read.

Returning to Calgary BookCrossing group
Got these from a BookCrosser to return to circulation. I am sorting the books and either passing directly to a Calgary member who has requested it or returning it to the person who introduced it to the group. Hopefully this one will find a new reader soon!
