At first I couldn't bond with the characters, but the last chapters were breathtaking. Great book, even if (or mostly for) facing realities we're not pleased to find in fiction. Way different from the coquetry and spectacular mind-blowing effects of 007's like, this cold war novel brings spying in a colder, less cliche-full light.

Placed in soffitta1's EURO 1001 VBB, soon to be mailed to frutz.

Didn’t quite know what to make of this book. What could have been a good thriller
I found a little strange. The double cross was explained and then the author reverted to not mentioning it again, just narrating events rather than giving any sort of insight into the main character’s feelings whilst setting up the elaborate web of deceit. Some opinions were definitely of its time – a female character berating herself for not thinking of cleaning the main male character’s flat! That said it was an insight into the stranger-than-fiction world of Cold War espionage from someone with real life knowledge of it.

Thank you frutz for sending me this book, I appreciate it. Now available for anyone who would like it.

This book arrived a while ago but been so busy (bad excuse!) but have finally got round to journalling it.

Thanks so much for sending me this wishlist book, I like to try new books and not just read the same chick lit books all the time :-)
Merry Christmas!
