Duma Key

One of the best books by Stephen King I ever read. I liked that the atmosphere was a mix of creativity and art, horror and Florida beaches. It is very thrilling and I kept turning the pages late at night because I couldn't stop reading :)
From the back of the book:
"After a terrible construction site accident severed his right arm, scrambled his mind, and imploded his marriage, the wealthy Minnesota builder faces the ordeal of rehabilitation alone and enraged. Renting a house on a stunningly beautiful and eerily undeveloped splinter off the Florida coast, Edgar slowly emerges from his prison of pain to bond with Elizabeth Eastlake, a sick old woman whose roots are tangled deep in Duma Key. And as he heals, he paints - feverishly, compulsively, his exploding talent both a wonder and a weapon. For Edgar's creations are not just paintings but portals for the ghosts of Elizabeth's past ... and their power cannot be controlled."

Duma Key will be on its way to the winner of the Halloween Sweepstake and I hope it'll find a nice, warm home in her bookshelf :)
I hope, you'll like the book...I saw that you read Firestarter, which didn't make you a fan of Stephen King. Still, I chose this book, not only because of the pumpkin coloured sky on the cover ;) but also because I didn't like Firestarter, either, though I find, Duma Key is amazing, wonderfully creepy, with well modelled characters and just perfect for Halloween :)

Received in the Hallowe'en sweepstake. Thank you very much!
More in the 'creepy and disturbing' vein. The hero is a former construction magnate who becomes an artist after losing an arm in an accident. Doom and disaster result. This was compulsive reading, and kept me hooked most of the way to the end. Fantastic sense of place, though I detected a misogynistic undertone that I didn't much like.

Thank you for this wishlist book, received as a sweepstake win! I'm sure to enjoy this!
I finally got around reading this. It was basically a ghost story so for me a bit meh. But as it's by Stephen King it is very well written and with good character, especially the protagonist, Wireman and Elizabeth; there were some really good stories intertwined in this longish book. This is one for King fans.
