King of the Murgos (Book Two of The Malloreon)

David Eddings was one of the first fantasy serialists I read, many years ago, and it's a good thing, too. If he weren't, I probably wouldn't have gotten past the first book of the first quintet. I would have realized just how flat and derivative Eddings' plots are, on top of seeing how one-dimensional his characters are and how they all have the same style of "wit". Only read Eddings if you haven't read much fantasy, to get a feel of the average work of the genre, then read some Gaiman or Feist or Rowling for really good stuff.
