Bought this in a sale in Stockmann's, Helsinki, ages ago. Priced 7€ I've been have a major sort out of my office and re-discovered it (unread) so started reading it last night (great start!) and today getting around to registering it. It is the story of a young black girl adopted into a white, privileged, middle-class family. Set in Nofolk and London (so far)

I liked this book a lot. It was very interesting at many levels .. quite well written and at a pace that moved along quite quickly overall. Having been to London a lot recently (and staying with a white friend living in a very colourful neighbourhodd in South London- during the World Cup it didn't actually matter who won as someone there was supporting almost every team I think!) it was really good to see how Chess coped with London life I would have liked more insight into Judith ... Nottinghill is a very interesting area ... never been to the Carnival though.
