I picked up this volume of the series from Borders' closeout sale. I enjoyed Urasawa's Monster and Pluto very much indeed, and so I've dipped into this 20th Century Boys series as well.

This volume picks up some years after the events of the first few volumes; the world has changed dramatically, with Friend and his followers ruling New Tokyo, and with Kenji and his friends all imprisoned, missing, or dead. This book focuses on Kanna, Kenji's niece, who's in her teens now - and who seems to have near-mystical abilities for gaining people's trust (not to mention some kick-ass skills at the gaming tables). But she's still just a kid, so how can she possibly act against the overwhelming power of Friend and his followers?

She makes allies from improbable sources - a drag queen, a young police officer, the leaders of rival gangs - and, eventually, gets assistance from an old family friend (who's one of THE most badass characters in manga).

[There's a series of live-action films, starting with this one; I enjoyed them, and thought them remarkably faithful to the books, though it's possible that someone who hadn't read the series might be more than a little puzzled. I traded this book in at Annie's Book Stop at about 4. (They trade books for a small - very small {wry grin} - credit that can be used against purchases; the used books usually sell for half the cover price. I've found some great books here, including a BC-registered book or two.) Hope the buyer enjoys this book!

I was browsing at Annie's Book Stop today and noticed that this book was still on the shelves there, so I decided to buy it back and release it somewhere else.

I left this book in the Ghost Train: Number Nine geocache in Milford at around 3:45 or so. Since it's Volume 9, I thought it'd match the cache number nicely. Hope the finder enjoys the book!
