It is a freezing December night and shoppers have gathered to listen to a Salvation Army carol concert. Then a shot rings out and one of the singers falls to the floor, dead. Harry Hole and his team are called in to investigate but have little to work with – there is no immediate suspect, no weapon and no motive. But when the assassin discovers he has shot the wrong man, Harry’s troubles have only just begun

Being taken to the Uncon for a bookcrosser who has this on their wishlist.
Another from my wish list, thank you rahar109!
Couldn't resist getting stuck into this one on returning fron the UnCon. I enjoyed this far more than my previous read of Nesbo's - 'The Snowman', not entirely sure why, maybe because I found the Harry Hole character more engrossing this time around. A good read , with lots of twists and turns.
I loved reading Nemesis which I was told was the first or second one - although this turned out not to be the case. I'm told you really need to read the books in order because of Character development. That's not always easy as the books appear to have not been published in English in the right order. I'm picking up any Nesbo's I see at meet ups so I can try and read them in order. This was picked up at the Oxford meet up
I couldn't get into this one as much as the other Harry Hole books I'd read and as a result I broke off half way through and read three other books, before returning to it. I found that towards the end I got hooked again and enjoyed it much more when I got the whole picture.
Passing this on to a fellow bookcrosser who I think might enjoy this.

Thank you isisjem. Delayed response as I left it at your house a few weeks ago. But now I have it. Look forward to trying another Jo Nesbo

Having only read 'The Bat' so far and been a little disappointed, I found this much more enjoyable and gripping. I had thought another yet another detective with alcohol and woman problems was a bit of a cliche but the character of Harry was better explored here and reasonably subtle. The plot involving the Salvation Army community was intriguing and kept me guessing and the changes in point of view gave some dimension to whole thing. I'll definitely read more Nesbo now.
