Just about to start this 1001 book. Will be donating this to the 1001 library.
Finished this one and really didn't enjoy it, the first third of the book was about how he came to write the 'true tale' as he referred to it. Then this 'tale' was about 70 pages long, then the rest of the book was what happened after he read the book.
I'm hoping to pass this on during the 1001 VBB as many other people seemed to have enjoyed it - at least it is a 1001 book and a Spanish book which I can tick off my challenge lists.

Safely received from katrinat as part of 1001 BTRBYD Virtual Book Box - thank you!
I liked this, although I actually found the "true tale" the least interesting bit.
It certainly made me realise how little I know about the Spanish Civil War, as I had no idea which characters were real and which were fictional (apart from General Franco!) - would have helped if I'd noticed the helpful summary on p210 earlier!
