Winner of the Man BOOKER Prize 2002
Just finished this book and I have to say that a thoroughly enjoyed it. At the start of the book promises a tale that will make you believe in the existance of God,for this it fails to work for me,but that said the book can be read as either a flight of fancy or a morality tale about perseverance in difficult circumstances and self awareness. The story, despite some having some parallels with Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, feels original and fresh and is beautifully written.
However, that said, I do feel that the book could have done with a little judicious editting. The story dips a little just before Pi boards the ill-fated ship and the whole chapter about the floating island could and perhaps should have been axed although perhaps I missed something there. These are largely minor gripes, it was a Man BOOKER Prize winner after all,but were enough from stopping it getting either a 9 or a 10 rating.
All the same I feel that the book was still a very good read.

Thank you so much for sending me this book. The refresher chew was a lovely surprise. I had to fight for it with hubbie as it is his favourite sweet - I lost! Still I won't be fighting him for the book and look forward to a good read.
