Very good Eve Dallas mystery - here the daughter of a NYPSD captain is found brutally raped and murdered in her home. Lots of action and suspense.

Usually when reading books which are part of a larger series, the book itself stands alone and I don't necessarily feel like I am missing something by not having read the other books in the series.
With Kindred in Death, I couldn't connect with any of the characters. They all had established relationships and I felt like I couldn't break into the inner circle. I realize in every book you read, all the characters have history and established relationships prior to the reader picking up the book to read. I just felt with this book there was a wall I couldn't break through to feel engaged with any of the characters.
The story itself - the murder and rape of a NYPSD and the process in which the team went through to solve the crime was a great storyline. Some of it was predicable, but in the end, the story was told well and at times kept me guessing. However, not feeling connected to any of the characters made my overall experience with the book somewhat mediocre.
