Journal Entry 1 by florafloraflora on Saturday, September 06, 2003
I have just started reading this book, but it is pretty wonderful. I'm almost positive I'll want to buy the hardcover Everyman's Library version when I finish. If/when that happens I'll send this book out, maybe on a bookray.

I'm about halfway through Arabian Nights and it is a fun read; a lot different than the watered down tales I read in my youth.

Journal Entry 7 by Kernow8 from Southampton, Hampshire United Kingdom on Friday, November 07, 2003
I've just returned from vacation to find this in my mailbox (with two other books - not too alarming...). I will start this right away - reading a couple of tales each day alongside my current novel. I'm looking forward to it - thanks!

Journal Entry 8 by Kernow8 from Southampton, Hampshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, November 19, 2003
These tales were a lot more entertaining and readable than I had imagined - and quite easy to dip in and out of. I liked the way tales were nested inside one another - storytelling must have been a very important part of the Arabian culture of those days! It was also interesting to read of the Baghdad of the past... Mailing to MaryZee shortly. Thanks for the opportunity to read this!

Journal Entry 9 by MaryZee from Taneytown, Maryland USA on Tuesday, November 25, 2003
Received this bookring in the mail today, along w/ one other bookring (after not having hardly any for over a month), and 2 packages of books for the OBCZ. My husband says our mailbox is too small. I say it's raining books :-) 12/8/03 - Ready to start on this now. Shouldn't take much over a week or so. Will journal again when I'm finished.

Journal Entry 10 by MaryZee from Taneytown, Maryland USA on Wednesday, December 17, 2003
Okay, this is taking longer to read than I thought (and being sick earlier this week didn't help). I'm nearly half finished - don't know if I'll finish it before Christmas or not, but I'll try my best. Really enjoying this, although after a while some of the stories seem to be alot alike. A few years ago, I decided I wanted to read some version of The 1001 Nights. But I never seemed to find a copy anywhere when I thought to look for it. After reading the introduction, and learning about the history of translation difficulties, I'm really appreciative of this one. The prose is easily readable, and understandable, and the poetry is wonderfully lyrical. I love this translation, even though the going is a bit slow. Thanks for sharing SugarKane! I might have to add a copy of this to my collection. Eager to see what the rest of the stories bring. I'll post again when I finish it up. No replies w/ an address yet from GeologyGirl, so this may go straight on to Portugal. (I'll try some more before Christmas.) 12/23/03 - Finished this up early this morning. Will be going in the mail, Friday 12/26. Unless I hear from GeologyGirl in the next couple of days, it will be on its way to MisfitGrrl (I do have an address for her). 12/26/03 - Sent on to MisfitGrrl.
