"Imagine a year without Christmas. No crowded malls, no corny office parties, no fruitcakes, no unwanted presents. That’s just what Luther and Nora Krank have in mind when they decide that, just this once, they’ll skip the holiday altogether. Theirs will be the only house on Hemlock Street without a rooftop Frosty, they won’t be hosting their annual Christmas Eve bash, they aren’t even going to have a tree. They won’t need one, because come December 25 they’re setting sail on a Caribbean cruise. But as this weary couple is about to discover, skipping Christmas brings enormous consequences—and isn’t half as easy as they’d imagined."

I won this at a fundraising raffle. I read the book several years ago. A little too corny for me to really appreciate.

(Unabridged on 4 CD's; read by Dennis Boutsikaris)

Selected from BigJohnLefty's audio bookbox. A friend tells me that even though I've given up on John Grisham, I should read this one. We'll see if they're right or deluded.

Listened to this while making Mexican Chocolate Chip Cookies for our choir party, and while watching the hits on my BookCrossing Christmas Tree rise on flickr. Yes, it was predictable, but it was good to have on in the background as a seasonal diversion. I'm all for skipping the tchotchke, though I do like to support worthy charities. I started adding up how much the Kranks were spending, in preparation for the cruise and in promises for future donations, but lost count when the kid selling poinsettias came to the door. Didn't realize this was the book that the "Christmas With the Kranks" movie was based upon.

am not a big fan of the author, but the story wasn't very long so I thought I would give it a try. I liked it more than the last few Grisham's. I might be a bit more forgiving than usual because I did listen to this around Christmas and I loved the beautiful lights, and I even saw a few Frostys in yards and on roofs. The idea of skipping Christmas might be bothersome for some, but I do see the fun in it. When you live in a cold climate it is nice to go some place warm when you have the time. I couldn't imagine a whole community acting so rude about it. I would only recommend t
