9 out of 10

A nice simple fantasy book and a good beginning to a series. The world building was well done - I felt a sense of history with Earthsea.

From the back cover:
Ged was the greatest sorcerer in all Earthsea, but once he was called Sparrowhawk, a reckless youth, hungry for power and knowledge, who tampered with long-held secrets and loosed a terrible shadow upon the world. This is the tale of his testing , how he mastered the mighty words of power, tamed an ancient dragon, and crossed death's threshold to restore the balance.

This copy of the book was sent out as a bookray; however, it got stuck with bridge2thestars, who never sent the book on. So, I've registered a new copy of the book and restarted the bookray with the new copy. The updated journal entry can be found here.

Release planned for Monday, September 08, 2003 at Mailed to another BookCrosser in College Station, Texas USA.

When you receive the book please leave a journal entry noting that the book has arrived.

When you are ready to send the book on, PM the next person on the list and send by whatever shipping method you prefer. Also make a journal entry about your thoughts on the books and either include in that entry when you plan to send the book on or make a separate release note.

If you are the last person on the list, PM me to see whether this bookray will try to continue (which I would like it to do) or if you should release the book in your own way.

UPDATE 11/6/03: The book seems to have gotten "stuck." I am working on getting it moving again.

UPDATE 11/17/03: bridge2thestars has PMed me (personal life got in the way) and will be sending out the book this week.

UPDATE 12/8/03: still no word from bridge2thestars, so I've found a second copy of the book. I'll be registering it soon and will move all of the bookray information over to the new copy (when I do so, I'll PM all the remaining participants). I'll send the book on as soon as I get mississippimom's address. Sorry for the hold-up.

UPDATE 12/9/03: new copy registered and can be found here.

I received this book in the mail today, which is perfect considering that my reading has been somewhat in limbo lately. Now I have a really good reason to start up again. :-) I'll write more once I've read at least half of this book. Cheers!
