Found on the MKLibraries BC shelf after World Book Night. I've always meant to give Mr Heaney a go, now's my chance.

I haven't maybe given this the attention it deserves yet. I must say that I found a lot of the poems so grounded in Ireland and its idiom and culture that I struggled with a lot, but I did 'get' the ones about the bog bodies of Denmark, relating them to victims of the troubles (and vice versa). Very moving.

I'm passing this on to a lady who wanted a copy for her poetry group and would have had to wait too long for the library copy to come back. Maybe I'll try some more when it comes back my way.

Whoops! I just realised that I never made a journal entry on this book. I picked it up from the book buffet table at the Colchester UnConvention.

My review of the book:

The poems in this book are very deep. Mostly too deep for me, but I did especially like a few of them, namely:
"For Bernard and Jane McCabe" page 210
"The Wishing Tree" page 234
"A Kite for Michael and Christopher" page 158

I am sending this book to lamelemon as my part in the Wish List Tag Game. I will post it in the New Year as requested. I have set the release date to January 2nd.

I'm not much of a poetry reader, but this was quite an experience. My favourites were Station Island and Clearances.
