A Short Guide to a Happy Life
25 journalers for this copy...
Sending on a book ring; will read on the return.
Well, I was almost sure that this book had got lost somewhere in the mail system, but I guess I should've had more faith :-) The book is finally here !!! Incredibly enough, it took 2 months and a couple of days to get to my mailbox ... I have a few rings/rays ahead of this one, but I promise to be quick :-)
I couldn't resist such a tiny book ... and what a little gem it is !!! Anna Quindlen's words really touched me deep, maybe because I can relate to most of what's said. I've been trying to make my mind about changing a few things in my life, mostly professionally related, and this was book was very inspiring :-) I also loved all the photos, they're so nice :-)
Since there's no one else for this bookring, I'm going to try and organize another ring or ray for it ... it definitely deserves to be read by more people :-)

I loved this book so much I'll be buying my own copy sometime soon ...
In the meantime, this has been passed to fellow BCER Amostrinha today, who I'm sure will appreciate it as well :-)

Lovely Tho decided I needed a bit more happiness in my life. I agree!! Hope to enjoy this soon... Somehow there doesn't seem to be enough time for real life, let alone to be happy... :)
Quite a good reading in times of need. Because I don't think in times of joy we have the sensitivity of appreciating this kind of words...
Above all, I agree: "No man ever said on his deathbed I wish I had spent more time at the office."

I've received the book at the BC dinner last sunday. I've got caught by the title and sunday dinner was for sure a happy moment.
This was returned to me last Wednesday by Kiddie. I needed to re-read it again, and haven't had the opportunity to buy my own copy yet ...
I was going to pass this on to Sossap, but he has so many books on his plate right now that I've decided to mail it to another BC who I'm sure will enjoy it. It's a surprise, let's see what she thinks of it :-)

«and he stared out the ocean and said,
"look at the view, young lady, look at the view".
and every day, in some little way, i try to do what he said. i try to look at the view. that's all (...)
when i do what he said, i am never disappointed.»
loved this little book... i just loved it...!
and i know exactly who is needing to read it too...
hope she likes it as much as i did...
thanks again, tho!!!

This one is very - and I mean VERY - good! It made me smile a couple of times. Not just smile on the outside... And if you know what I mean, you'll love this book.
Este é muito - mas mesmo MUITO - bom! Fez-me sorrir umas quantas vezes. Não apenas sorrir por fora... E se sabem do que estou a falar, vão adorar este livro.
From the many good lines I found in it, here's one to give a taste of what it has to offer (and believe me, it's quite a lot!):
Das várias boas passagens que nele encontrei, aqui fica um cheirinho do que ele tem para oferecer (e acreditem que é bastante!):
«Life is made up of moments, small pieces of glittering mica in a long stretch of gray cement.»
Tradução livre:«A vida é feita de momentos, pequenos pedaços de mica cintilante numa longa extensão de cimento cinzento.»
To me, this one is a must read to everyone!
Para mim, este é de leitura obrigatória para todos!
Thanks to gata! Thanks to tho! And a special thank to mmz18407 for making this a wonderful bookring...!
Obrigado gata! Obrigado tho! E um obrigado especial para @ mmz18407 por ter iniciado este maravilhoso bookring...!

Journal Entry 13 by Fantasma from Carnaxide, Lisboa (distrito) Portugal on Thursday, February 19, 2004
Just received it in the mail, from gata...
It was a surprise for me too, and having read all the journal entries, I'm really anxious to reading the book!
My "twin" gata knows when I need this little things...
Thanks so, so much for sending this gift to me!
I'm a happy Ghost (Fantasma) today... ;o))
*updated 23/02* - I'm really ceptic about this kind of books... it's beautiful, no doubt about it... but for me life it's not that black and white.
Anyway, thanks so much for thinking of me, gata, and one thing I'll remember from the book: I've to "learn to be happy"...
Going back to tho.

This was just "pushed" on me on a BC meeting, but Tho knows me pretty well, so chances are I will like it ;) I will start reading it at once, and return it to tho next week. New Journal Entry as soon as I finish it!
It is a lovely reflection on life, wise and simple - but deeper because of that. Many thanks mmz18407 and tho for sharing. Book will be returned to Tho next tuesday.
PS - will share a secret of a happy life - dogs, playing with a dog is a great thing, loving one even better, and one can learn from them to totally completely enjoy a moment.

Another book that I brought from a Portuguese mini-meeting :)
[2004/05/21]
Ops! I forgot to make the JE after I've read the book. But here it goes.
It's a very little book that I've read on my way to work. It's mainly the author's opinion of how to have a happy life. You may not agree with everything but at least it makes you think about you're own life.

Just received from fflloorr... do I need a guide to have a happy life? :) I'll probably read it tomorrow and will let you know what I thought about it. If I enjoy it, I already know how's gonna read it next ;)
This is such a short book that I've read in on my way to work this morning. It is a feel-good book, but didn't really made me change my life ;)
And now, what will I be reading on my way back home??? Probably this book again!! :)

Some small sentences sometimes touch you...
Passed along by mady. Who can resist such a short book? ;o)
I agree with mady, this was a sweet book with a ring of truth to some of its sentences, but nothing that made me want to change my life!
Thanks for sharing anyway! :o)

What a sweet little pearl.
Life is really what happens to you while you are busy making other plans...
Have a nice day, look at the view!
It will be passed on to a friend...

PreciousArwen passed me this little white book :)
Sorry, not my kind of book...
I think it's a book for happy people and, since I'm having some problems now, there was nothing in it that my mother or my friends haven't already told me...
It's not going to change my life and reminded me of MRP storys ;op...
I hope the next reader apreciates it more!

This one got thrown my way in the Indian dinner.
i'll prolly finnish it later.

Hello little book!
Goodbye little book!
It was with me, but not anymore. Read it during 5 train stops. I don't usually like self-help books or any of the sort, but this one was not that bad.

I got this book at the meeting today in Lisbon. Have no idea what it's about -- it was just thrust into my hands by "evil" people who want to see me drowned in books... I'll have it read by the next meeting so I can throw this one on someone else and laugh evilly afterwards... ;)
I finished this book in an instant, yesterday at night. I couldn't form a definite opinion on it. The book is too small; when I start getting into the reading, the book ended. It's too short, it reads too fast, and didn't allow me to understand very well the purpose of it, what the author intended with it. Doesn't seem to be an opinion shared by many, who loved this little book, but I thought that, when it seemed the book was beginning, it ended abruptly. Maybe it's because I'm not used to these types of books. It has some really nice sentences and makes some valid points, but to me it didn't really seem to last long enough to touch me.
Got it from Xeyra on today's Lisboa meeting.
Didn’t like it.... sorry.
I’ll try to pass it along in the next meeting.

Quando tiver 5 minutos...
A nice book containing someone's life lessons. Favourite quotes:
"No man ever said on his deathbed I wish I had spent more time at the office."
"If you win the rat race, you're still a rat."
"Look at the view."
and it even included one of my favourite quote of all times:
"Life is what happens to you while you make other plans." - John Lennon, Beautiful Boy
Sorry for the delay (I read the book back in November). It was passed on to ridufa last Tuesday.

I got his little book on St. Patrick's party and I really enjoyed reading it. Also loved the photos :))))
Yes, I agree that those two quotes are great: "No man ever said on his deathbed I wish I had spent more time at the office." and "look at the view, young lady, look at the view".
Before I pass it to another bookcrosser, I would like to read it again, ok?
Thanks a lot for sharing :)))
