This was a lovely little book - the characters really came alive to me, in a non-dramatic sort of way. I felt particular sad for the son, growing up without deserved love and attention from his parents. This kind of representation of sadness, like how many things seemed to find form in the story, is part of what made the book feel real to me - real but not gratuitous. It was not a favorite read, but definetely satisfying.

I had a note on this book to send it along to Ukbrat...so here it goes! enjoy :)!

This book was okay. I didn’t latch on to any of the characters. I didn’t particularly like any of them. With the exception of the son, I found them all rather unpleasant and vapid. There were so many directions that Findley could of gone with the idea to write stories about pictures.
Part of me wondered if the distance found in generations caused disconnect between myself and the characters.
