Funny! About to go out as a bookring book.

The order of the ring so far is as follows (keep checking for updates):

Vysion
Debnance
YagoBCN
Cyber-librarian

I'm sure more will be joining as the other two books make their rounds. I hope you all enjoy the series as much as I am :)

Yippee! More Pratchett.

I bought "Guards! Guards!" last week as a result of enjoying kikimasu's generosity in sharing Terry Pratchett. Here's more to read and laugh.

A nice yarn about how the other magic in Discworld is performed and taught. It's not all booklearning at the Unseen University! You've gotta have headsmarts and know your environment (herbology).

I really wanted each new character to just run off with the plotlines. Instead, Pratchett brings in terrific characters that act as one trick ponies, to be read and forgotten. A nice fluff piece on the gender wars (Equal Rights).

Forgot to mention, but I want a staff! :(

Equal Rites is book #3 in the Discworld series. I've read #1 (Color of Magic) and I'm waiting for #2 (Light Fantastic). I have Mort and Eric to send to Vysion...no idea what numbers these two books are. I also received Sourcery yesterday. Do I sound confused? I will seek reading order information from our Discworld leader, kikimasu, as soon as possible.

Another visit to Discworld. Equal Rites focuses on Esk, dubbed a wizard at birth, before it was realized Esk was a girl (a definite Discworld no-no). Full of the typical Terry Pratchett word play and clever humor, Equal Rites is a teensy bit more plot driven and an eensy bit (just a wee bit!) preachy. A fun read, the book equivalent of a half dozen chocolate chip cookies.

I received 'Sourcery' and 'Equal Rites' today. It's funny I started 'The Colour of Magic' a few days ago and I bought two TP books more... Heavy Pratchett times are coming! I'll send both books once I finished 'Sourcery', since I have another copy of 'Equal Rites' that is not bookringed.

This is the 4th TP book I read, and the best so far. I found The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic great, witty and funny. This one is as well, but it also deals with gender conflicts and make the plot a little deeper. I hope Granny shows up again eventually in antoher novel, as Rincewind does. It's a great character!

Now I have Mort and Sourcery to read... they're number #4 and #5 in the TP Discworld Collection. I'm going to send Equal Rites to Cyber-librarian right away, not to stop the bookring. Thus, he won't have to wait too much!

I picked up this book (and 2 other bookrings) at the post office today ... from YagoBCN in Spain. I already have 2 others, so this will be 3rd in line. I'll try to finish reading it as soon as I can and will post an update if it's taking me too long.

c. 1987 -- 213 pages -- Paperback -- #3 in Discworld series -- International Bestseller -- #15 on BC 2008 Favorites list (series)

Front Cover: Feminism clashes with a sorcerer's feud -- the magic and mayhem of Discworld continues!

Back Cover: Terry Pratchett's profoundly irreverent novels, consistent number one bestsellers in England, have garnered him a revered position in the halls of parody along with Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, and Carl Hiaasen.

In "Equal Rites," a dying wizard tries to pass on his powers to an 8th son of an 8th son, who is just at that moment being born. The fact that the son is actually a daughter is discovered just a little too late ...

I finished reading this last night. I enjoyed it a lot more than the first two. Granny Weatherwax is hilarious as she helps Esk (Eskarina) find the unknown way to Unseen University. I fell in love with both characters of strong will and individuality. They connect with Simon and Cutangle and Discworld will never be the same again. I especially loved the scene with Granny and Cutangle on the broomstick (page 194+195) ... too funny!!!! I agree with Vysion and will keep my eyes open for staffs!!! But why is the librarian portrayed as an orangutan ... an organgutan??? ... why an organgutan??? LOL

I finally finished this last night. Like Cyber-Librarian I also liked this book the best of the first three that I've read. Granny and Esk were great fun and I hope they, plus Simon and Cutangle show up again. Lots of sly humor in this book and some laugh out loud moments. Thank you Kikimasu for sharing and being so patient while I worked my way through all three of the books you sent me! I have the next Discworld books headed my way and I can't wait to explore more.
