Journal Entry 1 by tangledthreads from Derby, Derbyshire United Kingdom on Friday, August 22, 2003
Female authors, including Margaret Atwood, A.S,Byatt, Joyce Carol Oates, Fay Weldon (and many more) discuss fairy tales and what they mean to them personally. There are some fascinating insights into the work and private lives of the authors, although some of them didn't probe as deep as I might have liked. Anyone who is intrigued by the theory of fairy tales will find something of value in this book. I will release this book into a bookring at some point in the near-ish future. Please PM me if you are interested, and I will make it sooner rather than later.

Journal Entry 4 by starbytes from Calgary, Alberta Canada on Saturday, September 20, 2003
Received this book today with some other books! It looks really interesting. Can't wait to read it. Thanks, tangledthreads! Update 3rd October 2003 : I'm about halfway through the book; some of the essays were interesting and really caught my attention, some were a quite a chore to read and I kept wondering what the point of their story was. My favourite so far is Julia Alvarez's essay. I loved the way she told her story and it made me interested in her other writings too! I've signed up for one of her bookrings, and looking for her other books! Also, she got me interested in Arabian Nights/A Thousand and One Nights. A fellow bookcrosser has kindly sent me Arabian Nights because of my interest. I've also gotten interested in Hans Christian Anderson's works, I've always love The Little Mermaid, but never really knew about Snow Queen. I guess my world of fairy tales were pretty limited before I read this book... I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the book, and I love discovering new fairy tales from the authors' essays!

Journal Entry 6 by AnnaLibrarian from Richmond, Virginia USA on Monday, October 27, 2003
The book arrived today. Hopefully it will get read soon, but my time is increasingly being filled by other demands that take me away from my comfy chair. Update 11/13/03: Sorry! I feel badly for having this book for so long. I intend to have it read this weekend, so it will be moving along soon. Update 12/1/03: It's been an interesting read. I nearly picked up a discounted copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales at the book store the other day, just because I'm not familiar with many of the fairy tales discussed in this book.
