‘Dissolution’ is my choice of book to give away on World Book Night. It is the first in a series of Tudor crime novels, which begin in the reign of Henry Vlll, during the terrifying times of the dissolution of the monasteries, when Henry has fallen out with Rome since he is not allowed to ditch Katherine. Henry is only the backdrop though. CJ Sansom uses the period to great affect while it is the king’s right hand man, Thomas Cromwell, pulls the strings. I thoroughly enjoyed the character of Matthew Shardlake, our erstwhile Tudor sleuth. If you like this book the bonus is that Sansom has so far written four more with Master Shardlake as the central character. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
