Beige brought this to meet-up for my mom, so I'm giving it a BCID and will pass on to her. I must say I am intrigued by the artwork, so maybe I'll have a go at it.

I love this series! Somehow, things just seem to work out for Mma Ramotswe. No matter how bleak or how complicated things get, the ending somehow is fitting and just. I also love the heavy dose of philosophy in most chapters. In this, the second book of the series, Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni reflects on the art of learning to be a mechanic at one's father's side. "Did not the Lord himself learn to be a carpenter in his father's workshop? If the Lord came back today he would probably be a mechanic, he reflected. That would be a great honor for mechanics everywhere. And there is no doubt but that he would choose Africa: Israel was far too dangerous these days. In fact, the more one thought about it, the more likely it was that he would choose Botswana, and Gaborone in particular. Now that would be a wonderful honor for the people of Botswana; but it would not happen and there was no point in thinking about it any further. The Lord was not going to come back; we had had our chance and we had not made very much of it, unfortunately."

This book now gets passed on to a deserving friend, shaindal.
