Thought this wouldn't be as good as Girl with Pearl Earring/Falling Angels. Wrooong.

'Compelling story of two women, born four centuries apart, and the ancestral legacy that binds them'

The dream at the beginning seems very confusing, but read it again once you've read to the end & it makes perfect sense.

The book arrived safely this morning - the postal strike hasn't hit us in the north west yet! I'm looking forward to reading this very much - my third Tracy Chevalier this year. She is one of my authors I've discovered this year. Thanks Shylock for organising this Ring and letting us share your book.

This was a great read once I got into the two stories - although it is confusing at the beginning. I was more interested in Isabelle's story than Ella's and I can see why the author has remained with historical fiction after this book. The links between the stories especially names and dreams is interesting, and the farm in Isabelle's story reminded me of Wuthering Heights. (There are lots of links to hearths and wolves and the colour blue). I think Chevalier maybe did use some of these metaphors after reading the book. I adored Marie and Jacob (child) - such lovely characters.
The mystery of Hannah is well worth reading to the end. This is an interesting mystery but I'm pleased to say the author has improved in her following books.

On to skutts.
