It took a long time for my book group buddies to convince me to read this one. The premise, admittedly, sounds bizarre: woman kills husband and puts his head in a Tupperware container, bringing it with her as she drives across the country to audition for the Beverly Hillbillies. But this book is far deeper than that, dealing with social unrest and segregation in the Deep South in the 1960s. Another one that resonates long after being read. Hysterically funny, horrifying, sad and joyful in turn.
