The book pictured is not the version of the book I am registering, but I always like to have a picture if possible. I bought this book at a fifth-grade book sale (along with Bram Stoker's Dracula. So this paperback (a Magnum Easy Eye edition) is almost 30 years old.

I tried to read it when I bought it, but this is literature, not the moster story my eleven-year-old brain was desiring. So I shelved it and went back to the Hardy Boys and such.

I read it in high school for a book report, and again in college. It has been a while since I read it but I remember strongly a few impressions:

First, it was not what I had been led to expect from the Hollywood depictions. Second, I was struck by how much more human (and humane) the moster was than the doctor who created him. Third, I thought it was so relevant given modern concern for science experimentation and development without fully understanding the implications of what we are doing.

So, when going through my shelves and finding it and considering it for release, I was reminded of how this book will be relevant still and yet.

I'm planning on a wild release sometime in the fall, perhaps near Halloween time when people are in the mood for this sort of thing. I'll be teaching on campus at George Mason University and may end up crossing it there.

On a lark I searched the wish lists again, and this time it came up in the search. So, I'm sending this one to tootshelling as RABCK. Good to know it is going somewhere where it is wanted. I hope she enjoys this classic novel.

Sent today, August 21, 2003.
