Journal Entry 1 by bookczuk from Charleston, South Carolina USA on Tuesday, February 15, 2011
A rather scruffy old copy from a Friends of the Library library discards pile that was going to go to book heaven because it's not pretty. Can't have that. There is much magic in Moominvalley. The picture on this bookplate is of part of a graffiti/street art mural in Berlin, Germany and was taken in 2010.

Journal Entry 2 by bookczuk at Charleston, South Carolina USA on Tuesday, February 15, 2011
I saw that a friend has this on her wish list. She often does very nice things for others so it's only fair that a little kindness comes back to her.

Journal Entry 4 by melydia at Centreville, Virginia USA on Wednesday, February 23, 2011
Wow! This was truly a surprise. I don't know how you got my street address (which isn't on RABCK.com) or my birth name (which I don't even use professionally), but thank you SO much. I love Moomins, and this is one I haven't read yet. Looking forward to it! :D Edit: Turns out I gave bookczuk my full name and address at some point - ha! It would seem my mind is like a steel sieve!

Journal Entry 5 by melydia at Centreville, Virginia USA on Saturday, January 21, 2012
A collection of short stories about our favorite Moomins and the other creatures who inhabit their world. I liked hearing about the fillyjonk, the hemulen, and other such critters, but my favorites were about the last dragon (I heart Snufkin!) and Moominpappa’s journey with the Hattifatteners. The latter was particularly satisfying, as it’s referenced in many of the other Moomin books. As with all things Moomin, I am a terrible reviewer because I just love them so much. The characters, for all their flaws and foibles, are absolutely charming. I can never seem to get enough Moomin. Thank you so very much, bookczuk, for sharing this with me.

Journal Entry 7 by LittleWhiteBird at Arlington, Virginia USA on Saturday, January 28, 2012
I didn't want to take any books home from the meeting today, because I'll be moving soon, but I couldn't resist the Moomins!!! The copy isn't so scruffy anyway, it's just missing the dust jacket shows the signs of apparently several people reading it in different environments ... Probably they couldn't put the book down... ;)

Journal Entry 8 by LittleWhiteBird at Arlington, Virginia USA on Saturday, February 11, 2012
I just finished reading the book. Tove Jansson has just a wonderful way of writing about important and varied topics as anxiety, friendship, freedom, loving your belongings, and more in a simple, but not over-simplified way. I was especially fascinated by the story about his mother's aunt that Snufkin tells to Sniff in "Cedric", because we have many belongings, too, and are in the process of learning to give some away so that we have more "breathing room" and maybe the opportunity to invite friends ...
