Two separate unrelated deaths of two young adults have vaguely similar parallels. In previous Inspector Banks novels he has occasionally referred to the disappearance of a childhood friend (when he lived in Peterborough) in which he felt a strong guilt for not reporting an incident of a strange man who had tried to drown him a couple of days before his friend's disappearance and was convinced the two incidents were linked. He offers his help to the local constabulary after the body of his friend is discovered. In the meantime another young adult has disappeared in Yorkshire and the investigation is carried out by his colleague/ex-lover DI Annie Cabbot.
Another good story with both cases resolved to satisfactory conclusions!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Book left on the bench by the long and winding steps leading down to the beach. A beautiful spot.
found on a bench on my limestone grassland near Brynteg in a very sorry state- a big hole in the plastic bag meant it was soaking wet. Two weeks in front of the fire have dried it out. Left in my office in Bangor, Gwynedd
