8 out of 10

I have to admit, when I first started reading this I really didn't think I was going to like it. It was just too unbelievable and trite at the same time....an entire other world below London? The Marquis de Carabas? A girl named Door? But..as I read on, I became intrigued with Door's powers and Richard's naivetie and all the other characters who are part of "Below". Although I managed to guess who was behind the death of Door's family, I wasn't able to guess the reasons or the outcome.

As the story went on, it became more and more gripping and harder to put down. Thanks for sharing this jmg49.

I've pm'd the next person on the list for an address then off it goes!

This book totally took me by surprise. I didn't think it would be that good, but the way Neil Gaiman invented that other world was just awesome. I'm now asking myself if London Below truly exists, because parallel worlds always had me smiling, but now... This book was a fantasy one, but it was so real that I had to believe every word I was reading. Even the title is great for reflexion. For all of you that will read it, prepare for a marvelous time.

I'm sorry for the delay, but I am a college student and I was caught up with midterms. I'm sending the book today to West Virginia, to JamieH2003.

This was a superalative reading experience! I enjoyed this even more than American Gods. Thanks so much jmg49 for the opportunity to read this. I believe this is one that I'll be purchasing for my personal collection as I can see myself rereading this one fairly often.

9 out of 10

I was already a hardcore Neil Gaiman fan, so it's no surprise that this book was like eating chocolate cake and ice cream and spinning all night with the one I love! I often couldn't put the book down and paid for it lots of mornings! I find his writing enthralling, love his use of language, trip around his sentences and have to think about what he's creating. A total mind exercise that left me satisfied and fit.

Hated getting to the end...

am pming the next in line now to send it on its way...

I tried, I tried, I tried but I just can't get into this one. When I even think about reading it, it feels like a chore. So I am going to give this a pass. A local BCer has a copy of it and I may give it a try at another time. But for now, this copy is on its way to nrrdgrrl.

woo hoo! i've been much looking forward to this one, as i find gaiman's 'american gods' one of the best books i've read lately. and i see mixed reviews here, which is also a good sign to me.

less fortunate is that i have to do some university exams first. i'm behind on the books i need to read, because bx books are nicer. as an adult student i am of course a totally responsible person. hmm.
so i'm keeping neverwhere apart as the present i'll deserve in a month!

thanks all for getting this wish lister to me.

8 out of 10

not sure what happened... i'm at three quarters of the book.
(huh? i didn't have much time to read?)
i spend my nights in london below. makes me walk in the day world like a zombie. and the other day i spent a lot of time in the amsterdam metro. where i expected different people than i encountered. welll... i take that back. there were many metallica fans due to a concert. so the people weren't thAt different from london below.

funny enough gaiman's writing isn't that breathtaking. like with suitor american gods, technically speaking i can think of some work to be done. parts are brilliant, but there's also dips and lulls and a bit of chafing should help. most of the story is not exactly original nor unexpected. it leans on pratchett and others (or maybe pratchett leans on gaiman, i'm not sure about their chronology; they certainly influenced one another).

but the atmosphere of the book is so enchanting that i just can't put the book down. last night i peaked at a shocking 5am. i hope sleep wins tonight.

sleep did win eventually. but on the long weekend away i finished the book asap. the book more or less devoured me.
i've just returned and pm'd simietta for her address.

ps, about the name simietta: i used to have a cat called simi. she earned the name because she was the first cat i ever saw who actually did climb curtains, and any other object that could handle her (small) weight. besides, she was the smartest and dearest cat i ever had. she has been gone for some ten years now; i still think of her often.

off to simietta. priority wasn't much extra on this weight and the friendly post office wench mentioned it's smart to send priority to italy: packages seem to get lost often... knock on wood, but i never had this experience for italy. the netherlands is (are?) a problem zone itself!

Fascinating story. Neil is a genius. Since reading Sandman I fell in love with his stories.

Not as good as Good Omens, but I did enjoy this. I think it helps to read this if you know London and it's Tube system, to picture where things are taking place. I love the way place names were messed about with-I'll never think of Knightsbridge in the same way again!
I've put a copy of the London Underground map in with the book...
Onwards!

10 out of 10

I don't usually give books a 10, but this one warranted it! It was wonderful, and pretty much flawless (just wish it had gone on a bit longer!). I've read Gaiman's work on Sandman, so I had pretty high expectations, and Neverwhere lived up to them. I thought London Below was wonderfully detailed--the rat-speakers, the floating markets--I felt like it was a real place that Gaiman had visited. And the characters were all well fleshed-out. I even got a kick out of the villains.

Thanks so much for sharing this book. Tootshelling has asked to be removed from the list because of a backlog of books, so I'll send this on to Maurean as soon as I get her address.

Fabulous. Gaiman never seems to disappoint me. I completely enjoyed this sort of gothic-like Alice-in-Wonderland; With his intelligence, wit, and imagination, the reader cannot help but be drawn into the world which he is creating. His writing is so tactile & real, he is a master of story-telling. Loved it, Loved it!!

Next, it will be on its journey as soon as I get an addy for where its going! (Both Kernow8 & Shellyann have asked to be skipped)

What a wonderful book! If only we could be so lucky to experience such adventures in our own lives. It amazed me how brave Richard became for the sake of others.
Our lives seem so unimportant compared to that of London below. It makes you think: what is our purpose here?

Anyhow, I loved the book and thank you Jmg49 for the opportunity. Will pm the next in line for their addy.
