The book is told by Jack, the 5 year old who was born in Room, where his mother was kidnapped and confined to when she was 19.
For Jack, the world is Room. What he sees in TV is outerspace or made up.

I think Donoghue pulls it off. Jack is believable. His reactions make sense and are understandable. Also the character of his Ma is working. She wants to be a good mother for Jack, and so does everything and more that a Ma in a normal environment would do, except she gets to spend more (that is all) time with him.

I liked the book. It was suspenseful, and at times I couldn't put it away.

A very interesting book that really captivated me. I agree with Sunneschii that Donoghue writes a believable story, which gives food for a lot of thoughts.

Am Anfang war ich drauf und dran es wieder zur Seite zu legen, weil mich der Stil etwas genervt hat. Aber das Durchhalten wurde belohnt. Zum Schluß konnte ich es nicht mehr weglegen. Und wenn man bedenkt, dass ähnliche Szenarien tatsächlich schon vorkamen...
