Miyuki Miyabe, one of Japan's most popular authors, is best known for her award-winning crime fiction. Her first work translated into English. All She Was Worth won the prestigious Shu-goro Yamamoto Prize and was named Best Mystery and Best Novel of the Year in Japan. Miyabe lives in Tokyo."
Translated by Alfred Birnbaum.

This book is already on its way to eponine38 who chose it from the Murder in Translation VBB.
Thank you for this book from the Murder in Translation VBB! Thanks also for the nice bookmark and postcard of the Capilano Suspension Bridge.
I look forward to the read!

Excellent glimpse into life in Japan, something I know deplorably little about. Interesting characters and plot. The ending isn't typical of mysteries and left me slightly unsatisfied, but definitely worth the read.

The book has safely arrived in Austin (and with a beautiful bookmark too). Thank you eponine38 (and eicuthbertson too to first setting the book free). This looks to be like just the type of crime I love.
I loved this.
A bit slower and less violent than I tend to like my crime, but it worked out perfect. Interesting setting, a lot about interesting pieces about paperwork and culture and changes in culture, interesting characters. No, the pace was perfect, not slow - set by the story and not too rushed and not too slow. I loved the atmosphere too.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
@ Cafe Johto
Safe journey little book - I hope you'll make many new friends on your travels!
"Don't ever apologize to an author for buying something in paperback, or taking it out from a library (that's what they're there for. Use your library). Don't apologize to this author for buying books second hand, or getting them from bookcrossing or borrowing a friend's copy. What's important to me is that people read the books and enjoy them, and that, at some point in there, the book was bought by someone. And that people who like things, tell other people. The most important thing is that people read... "

Okay, this book wasn't for me - I'm half way through and find it ... boring? or nothing special. I'm a bit surprised as this book has been selected "Best Mystery" and "Best Novel of the Year" in Japan. Perhaps there's something that I just don't get it ;)
I think I'm not going to struggle finish this, but pass it on to Annelis. And start reading other books on my TBR-pile.

Gave the book to Annelis.
Thank you for the book, kind Bookcrossers!
I'll read this book as soon as Crimi Club Italia Course is over.

Well, I like the book very much, because it is so Japanese. Funny thing: I happened to see on TV a program about a young man, who was deep in debt. He had taken first a small loan from some company which have high rents. And then another etc. He had a work and an extra work and still could not pay the loan-sharks, because the rents were accumulating. It is just what happened to Shoko in this book. The Japanese laws for handling this are different from ours but similar things happen to young persons who are a bit careless.
The book is a bit slow but it is part of the charm of it. If you like fast action, this is not a book for you.
This is my # 25 (120) in
"REDUCE MOUNT TBR 2015" Challenge arranged by Dutch-book.
