An Aunt leaves her London apartment to her twin nieces, on the condition that their mother does not cross the threshold. Above them lives a man with OCD who can't leave his house. Below them lives their aunt's former lover. And beside them is a cemetary.
Thus starts a claustrophobic love story, and a haunting ghost story.

I liked the atmosphere of this book, and found the characters interesting and could imagine the location really well.
Except for the Aunt (Elspeth). Initially she is a ghost who just observes things so doesn't need much character/believability. But half way through the book she is able to communicate with other people and at this point I found Elspeth just annoying and dull, which is a large flaw for such an important character in a story.
Like the time travellers wife this story isn't believable, but an enjoyable read.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
This book is going to Judygreeneyes in celebration of participating in the 2010 pages read challenge. It will be taking the slow boat to make the most of the journey. I hope you enjoy this book, and also the 2011 pages read challenge!!
Thanks so very much for sending me this book from across the pond! I've been wanting to read it for a long time. I'll let you know how I like it :)
I loved this story!! I'll come back and write a real journal entry when I have a bit more time. I handed the book off to a fellow BCer today at a meetup.
Snatched from the bookbox judygreeneyes shared today at meetup. I actually have this in hardcover on my shelf, but I couldn't resist this lovely paperback. UK issues are always so much prettier!
I've noticed lately when reading large hardcovers that my hands cramp up more than they used to, so I am glad to have this copy to read instead.

I've opted not to read this book after all. (I might do it on audio.) I will take to my next BC meetup and see if I can find it a new home, otherwise I will wild release it.
