Journal Entry 1 by seethroughfaith from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland on Friday, January 21, 2011
This book is the 11th I've registered this year here in Turku, the European Capital of Culture! Does the light just go out and that's that - the million-year nap? Or will some part of my personality, my me-ness, persist? What will that feel like? What will I do all day? Is there a place to plug in my laptop?"Mary Roach trains her considerable humour and curiosity on the human soul, seeking answers from a varied and fascinating crew of contemporary and historical soul-searchers: scientists, schemers, engineers, mediums, all trying to prove (or disprove) that life goes on after we die.Along the way she encounters electromagnetic hauntings, out-of-body experiences, ghosts and lawsuits: Mary Roach sifts and weighs the evidence in her hilarious, inimitable style. I was given this book to review. Sadly I didn't like it at all. It has a marvellous write up, was suppoesed to be "quirky and delightful" (Daily Telegraph) and "highly enjoyable" (Jan Ronson) but it failed to hit the target for me. Hope someone else enjoys it ...

Thank you, Seethroughfaith! I really shouldn't take any books just now but couldn't resist this one. It was nice to see you, will miss you as well as other bookcrossers. But in summer I'm back in Turku again. :)
