Like quite a few other Westerners, I like reading about Japan and Japanese culture from time to time (not that I have any in-depth knowledge). This is a book about the Japanese schoolgirl obsession (please note that there is rather little about the more fetishistic aspect, which could otherwise be a bit offputting). What was new to me is that this is also very much a Japanese schoolgirl obsession with being a Japanese schoolgirl.

This book went home with me the other day ... I'm interested in Japan and I like learning more about their history and culture, so when I stopped by the zone and saw this book still there, I just had to pick it up. :-) I've already read it, and quite enjoyed it ... it has a lot of interesting info, and especially a lot of good illustrations. (But WHAT is with the Japanese and the V sign??) The writing, though, isn't that good ... and unfortunately it's rather shoddily edited, with a number of obvious typos etc left in the finished text. So that detracts from my overall impression of the book ... makes it harder to take it seriously. But this is definitely interesting for the right readers. :-)

Taking it back to the zone at meetup tomorrow! :-)
