Journal Entry 1 by potok-fan from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland on Thursday, January 20, 2011
We found we had two copies of this, so are letting one go. "Since the publication of Margaret Atwood's Survival in 1972, an enhanced awareness of victimization and power has been reflected by many Canadian women writers of fiction who have presented complex images of women as powerful. Aritha Van Herk's Judith and The Tent Peg take a strident feminist stance, presenting images in which women are seen to have androgynous power, power combined from men's and women's traditional sources of power; for Van Herk, freedom of choice seems to be the ultimate power." (Beran 1990) "The inevitable confrontations in this memorable novel leave no one unchanged." -- Library Journal "Unusual, skilled fiction. . . . Van Herk successfully manipulates an unusual narrative." -- Booklist "Written with care, sensitivity and considerable style." -- Publisher's Weekly "Aritha van Herk's creation of a mystical world infiltrated by reality captures little blue moments of intensity and truth that can hurt." -- Dallas Times-Herald
