I thought I might use this book for my first book ring. Barbara Erskine is one of my favourite authors, and this one follows much the same style as her other books (a bit of the supernatural, some romance, two parallel stories). The ending disappointed me a bit but still an enjoyable read. From the back cover: Recently divorced, Anna Fox decides to cheer herself up by retracing a journey her great-grandmother Lousia, a reknowned artist, made in the mid-nineteenth century - a cruise on the Nile from Luxor to Aswan. Anna carries with her two of Louisa's possessions - an ancient Egyptian scent bottle and an illustrated diary of the original cruise. As she follows Louisa's foosteps, Anna discovers in the diary a wonderful love story from the Victorian past, and the chilling, more distant secret of the glass bottle.

All I can say is Wow!! What a trip the author takes you on... I had never read a book by Barbara Erskine before! This was a great read and a "meaty"book, one that doesnt end quickly in a few hours of reading. Thanks for letting me read this book. As for the story, I was sorry about what happened to Andy, but he was such a bother and so bossy, I wouldn't have been as nice about letting him hang around! THis really is interesting for those who are enamored of Egypt and it's mysteries. The book did a great job of putting you there in the atmosphere.. I will be sending this on to tho in Portugal in a few days...... August 29 On its way!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I was almost sure that this book had got lost somewhere in the mail system, but I guess I should've had more faith :-) The book is finally here !!! Incredibly enough, it took exactly 2 months to get to my mailbox ... I have a few rings/rays ahead of this one, but I promise to be quick :-)

I actually enjoyed this book a bit more than the other Barbara Erskine novels I've read (maybe except Lady of Hay ...) - probably because I've always had a fascination with Ancient Egypt and all its mysteries :-) The story was a bit poor, though, it seems to revolve always around the same thing ... I actually ended up enjoying more the bits about Louisa than Anna's, and I was very disappointed with the ending :-( Still, it was great to know more about Erskine's works, so thanks dragonfly4 for organizing this ring :-) Will be posted to Theresa-A as soon as I get her address ...

Well, dragonfly4 and I thought this book had been lost; so I’ve ordered a second hand copy. Lo and behold, ‘Whispers in the Sand’ arrived this morning! Better late than never :-) I’ll send it straight on to Wandeca, so as not to delay it any further. I'll read the second hand copy when it arrives, and probably pass that on to someone else. Thank you anyway, dragonfly4!
