Murder Can Kill Your Social Life (Desiree Shapiro Mystery #1)
3 journalers for this copy...
Desiree Shapiro, chubby New York private eye, takes on the case of a poor grocery kid accused of murdering an older woman for her grocery money. This is the first in the series, so if it's a good one, I will have another author to follow. Picked this one up on my first trip to The Book Thing of Baltimore.
Not the best mystery but certainly entertaining. I was not completely satisfied with the solution, but was in agreement with how she linked the two murders. The characters were interesting and I was pleased that although our heroine, Desiree is described as being chubby or plus-size, that did not affect her ability to attract men.
I would read others in this series if they came my way, but don't know that I would seek them out.

Adding this to the Mystery VBB started by bookstogive.
This book went two rounds in the Mystery VBB without being selected, so I am withdrawing it. However, since it seems to qualify as a cozy, I will hang onto it for the regular book box I just joined.

Adding this to Affinity4Books' Cozy Mystery Book Box. Happy travels little book!
One of my choices from Affinity4books' cozy mystery bookbox. Thank you!
I think the best parts of this book, for me, were the New York City setting, and the
tough-yet-vulnerable main character. I liked how she could boldly take over the interview of a suspect (right under the nose of her police buddy), yet still had her insecure "none-of-these-dresses-look right-and-what-am-I-going-to-wear?" moments too. I did not understand her relationship with Stuart very well, though, and, okay, so she's fat, but do we need to hear about what she's eating all the time? But those were just minor negatives; would definitely read more in the series, which is good because I think I've got another one on the shelf here waiting to be read. Thanks for sharing this story with me.
