This is my second copy of this book. When I found it on a Coles sale table for $2 (!) I just couldn't resist. I'd love to give it away...but it's also a book that I may want to read again. Problem solved! Two copies! Yay!

Well. What do I say about this book? It is a memoir (of sorts) relating the history of the first King of Canada, written after his death by his best friend and right-hand man, Blue. Future fiction, shall we call it? OK, but not the distant future. It's a future that could well be upon us all too soon. The world events leading up to the creation of Canada's first King are not really so very far fetched.

Time and again, I found myself cheering for King John as he rebuilds Canada, dealing decisively with social and political problems that have plagued this fine country for decades (or longer). We see Canada as we know it disintegrate then recreate itself as something stronger and more enduring.

Although I'm sure that anyone would enjoy this book, I think it's really a book for Canadians. I don't think it would resonate as strongly with anyone who doesn't have a strong understanding of our culture and our history. So many of the references would be lost. At times, I found this book outrageously funny, at times, thought provoking...at times, heart wrenching. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy reading!
