Brilliant - but then what else do we expect from Rushdie? Loved it ...

Journal Entry 2 by Gooner from March, Cambridgeshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, August 6, 2003
This book is available on a book-ring. Please forgive me if I get this wrong, as it's my first attempt at organising a bookring!

Because of postage costs, it will sadly be restricted to UK and EU readers only. Names for the ring should be received by me by 15 September, 2003, by PM, if you wish to be included.

I will keep on adding names until there are ten in the ring: I'll try to ensure that the book goes to all participants in the same location first, before whizzing off to another place. And then, at the end, I will be the 11th recipient ... and hopefully will have time to read the book again by then!

N.B. More information is included in my profile page, so please consult that. If after looking at the profile, something is still not clear to you, please PM me and I'll try to answer your query.

BookRing Batting Order so far:

1. YowlYY
2. Loopy1
3. Wistful Dragon
4. Theresa-A - arrived 12 December 2003
5. Lavale
6. fio-dagua
7. blacksheeps99
8. kangaroo
9. Lucy C
10. sandyundead (to UK only)
11. Katweeble
12. oblivious 1980
13. KittyNic
14. Gooner

HOW TO USE MY BOOKRING…

1. First of all, as soon as the book arrives, please make a journal entry to show it has arrived safely.
2. The book should go to the top of your TBR pile – it is not fair to keep people waiting for years to read a book: this ring will be closed after 10 readers.
3. PM the person next in line in order to obtain his/her mailing address and to find out if he/she is prepared to receive the book in the near future. If the person is going away on holiday, please PM me and I will move him/her down the line (suggestions welcome).
4. After reading the book, make another entry and add your comments as you like…
5. Post the book to the next reader (no release note!) and …relax, the worst is over!!

I will keep on adding names until there are ten in the ring: I'll try to ensure that the book goes to all participants in the same country first, before whizzing off to another country. And then, at the end, I will be the 11th recipient ... and hopefully will have time to read the book again by then!

This is my first attempt at a bookring - hope it works! Thanks to those who have responded so far, and to YowlYY for her assistance - and again, thanks to YowlYY for even more assistance!

I am on top of the list for this bookring, so I received it yesterday straight from Crisp93's hands ...many thanks! Watch this space for a real journal entry once I've read it....

Firstly, my apologies for not having been faster with this book...it arrived in the same week when I was already reading a novel, and two rays reached me too....sorry!!
About the book: I liked it. It's difficult for me to pin down the style...reminds me a bit of Rabelais, if you want, and none of the Indian authors I know writes like him...so...amazing! I don't want to discuss too much of the plot so that I won't spoil the fun for all the other readers, so I'll end up saying that this novel is more of a mixup of grown-up thoughts, childrens impressions, adolescents feelings...and the fantastic characters of the members of the family clan... the grandma...the granddad...and just like with Cyrano, in the middle of the events is always the nose...

This book is now about to continue its journey to Loopy1...happy reading! I am now looking forward to reading the comments of the other readers...

Arrived safely this morning, thanks!
I haven't read anything by Rushdie before, but I love controversial subjects/authors :-)
I had no idea what this book is about, but having read the back it sounds wonderful. An awful lot of what I've been reading lately has been stuff I wouldn't have picked up if it wasn't for BC, and I've been surprised at how much I've enjoyed it. Now I think this book might be the same :-)
More later.

Well, that was an interesting experience ;-)
I'm not giving this one a rating, because I find it hard to work out what score to give it. I feel that it is a book that will stay with me for a while, and one that will shape my thinking, particularly where India is concerned.
It's the longest I've taken to read a book in a long time, and I found myself avoiding it a couple of times simply because it takes a lot of concentration. Still, very enjoyable, and very entertaining - laugh out loud in places. Very thought-provoking in others.
Either the book got lost a little bit in the middle or it was just that I didn't know enough background about the history of India, but all the same, I'm glad I read this book. Thanks for sharing it :-)
Now on to WistfulDragon.

Received this book while ill and not able to read. So am just about to open it for the first time. Sorry for the delay.

Engrossing. Compelling. But I shan't read it again. I'm glad I did though - although it took a long time! Posted on last week - only got to a computer this morning.

'Midnight's Children' is here. I'll read it and pass it on as soon as possible.

[Update] Unfortunately, I couldn't really get into this book, so I shall pass it on to Lavale, as soon as I have an address. Perhaps I'll have more luck with it at a later date?!

The bookring has unfortunately come to a halt. At the time of writing this was the most journalled copy of Midnight's Children on BookCrossing, but as long as someone enjoys reading it, so what? :-)

In order that those who signed up for the original bookring would not be disappointed, I've obtained another older, UK copy and registered it. The names of those who signed up, but have not yet been able to read the book have been transferred.

Please see http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/1620923 for the current batting order of the new book.

Of course, if anyone else would like to be added to the transferred list, please do not hesitate to PM me.

Sorry about the delay and for the fact that the replacement is not as eye-catching!
