10 out of 10

This book really caught my attention, I could not put it down and read it in 2 days.
It sounds rather depressing, a young, fat, black girl pregnant with her own father, but the story is in some strange way uplifting and inspring. I give it my warmest recommendations.

And the book went home with me. :-) I've read it now ... it was a very moving book, and quite original. I'll add more later. Now I'm taking it with me to the Easter meetup and hoping it will find another reader there.

I liked the book a lot, it was a touching read, a glimpse into a world that is entirely foreign to me. Sad to think what people do to each other … sometimes the book is quite extreme, and one would like to think that in real life things wouldn’t be that bad, but sadly we have to realize that there is almost no limit to how a human being can mistreat another. :-( Precious, the main character, lives a very dreary life and has very few tools to express herself with, but changes dramatically – or rather becomes truly herself – when she’s given the tools by a teacher in her new remedial school. The story is pretty clichéd, we’ve all heard this before, but the writing makes it stand out. A book to remember. I haven’t seen the movie version yet but I definitely plan to now.
