Thank you! This looks good!

Just finished reading this and I must say it's a very interesting and honest story. I don't always like autobiograpies, or true stories. Especially since nowadays everyone who has spend more then 2 minutes in the spotlight seems to think that their livestory is what everyone wants to read. However in this case, not only is it an interesting story, it is also written by someone who knows how to captivate his audience. He did so during his live and manages to translate it to words aswell. It is funny, sad, and hopeful. A lovely choice for this roundabout, especially because I don't think many people will have read or heard of this book before.

Journal Entry 5 by rem_BGQ-488500 at Birchington, Kent United Kingdom on Tuesday, February 15, 2011
Arrived yesterday! It took me a little while to figure out what the book was for as there was no note :P Once I'd grabbed a comp and saw the journal entries I realised it's a Favourites Roundabout book.

Looks good! I have to admit I've been picking it up to read bits of it since last night, and I'm now about a third of the way through. I shouldn't be reading it before I've finished my first roundabout book, but it's so easy to read (and quite compelling, too!)

Journal Entry 6 by rem_BGQ-488500 at Birchington, Kent United Kingdom on Friday, March 4, 2011
Amazing little book. It was a real insight into the backstory of a Big Issue man. I will probably buy a copy to share with friends now =]
Thank you for offering a book as unique as this for the favourites roundabout!

Will post to Mafarrimond tomorrow.

Journal Entry 11 by wingearthcaroleannewing at Falkirk, Scotland United Kingdom on Monday, March 28, 2011
Thanks for sending this in the Favourites Roundabout, but I've already read it. Unfortunately, it would not appear anywhere on my favourites list. Unlike many other people, I did not enjoy this book, in fact it annoyed me. Usually when I state my opinion I get told that I don't understand what he has been through. Having been close to homelessness, fought to keep a room over my head and struggled with mental illness, I'm probably in a better position to judge than those that tell me I don't understand. There's been many a time I would just liked to have walk away from it all. The bit I really don't understand is how he could walk out on his children like he did.

ETA - I just wanted to say that it also made me feel guilty for feeling annoyed. I don't want you to think I'm completely heartless.

Okay, really didn't enjoy this one.

Agree with earthcaroleanne. Not impressed with his attitude of running from everything. Some of us have been there and the toughest thing to do is to stay and sort it out.

Received with thanks!

Journal Entry 17 by Annimanni at Espoo, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Wednesday, June 29, 2011
Hmm, I'm of two minds about this book. On one hand, it's a pretty interesting account of a way of life I know nothing about. And on the other, it's extremely frustrating. I sort of agree with earthcaroleanne and find it hard to accept that he as good as abandoned his kids. I've always had hard time symphatising with people who - in my eyes - seem to be always giving up too easily. But then again, I know nothing of growing up in such circumstances, with no support system nor guidance & security. There are way too many people whose lives are forever ruined by bad parenting.

On a side note, the first Finnish version of the Big Issue was published just a few weeks ago and it was a huge success: the first two editions were sold out. They're now contemplating whether to continue with the project. I think it was initially meant to be just a one-off thing.

I'll post the book to akosikulot tomorrow.

Arrived here this week. I've already read this earlier, but I know this is a short read, so will read again.

Journal Entry 19 by wingdutch-bookwing at Weesp, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Friday, December 30, 2011
Finished it. I can understand people who say that they don't understand how he could leave his children like that, especially when he knew how he turned out to be. But I also understand his position. I certainly hope he is still walking around, feeling happy. I will send this on, on the 2nd of January.

At first I thought it would be an interesting book. That is, after the first chapters, in which Graham Walker describes his childhood. Despite the very sad contents, I liked these chapters the most.
When the story continued, I found it harder and harder to read, mainly because I do not understand him.
I do not judge him, but the worlds we grew up in are so totally different, that I can't imagine how damaged a grown up he has become because of his childhood. How someone would abandon his children and keep running his whole life. To me is looks like an easy way out, leaving every time that things are settling.

The drawings were great :-) and I liked part of the poems too

As I had suspected, this book was lurking at my parents' house. My Dad used to be so good at letting me know about books that arrived here, but he's now 85 and slowing down.
Boekentrol went beyond the call of duty and replaced the copy, so now I have two!!
I will try and find a good home for this well travelled duplicate.
