Ok, so I knew this was going to be sad, but I had no idea just how gut-wrenching it was. This is sold as a kid's book? I did love the descriptions of the countryside and of course of the otters themselves. I'd never heard of otter hunting before reading this book, and as I'm very firmly against blood sports, it came as a rather unpleasant surprise. The lows that humans will stoop to never cease to amaze me.
I got quite emotional while I read this and I suspect that some of the scenes will stay with me for a while yet. This was one of those books that I can't say that I enjoyed but that's only because of the content and not the writing. I'm glad that I've finally read it, so thanks Soffita1 for sending it. I'll now pass it back to the library.
