On top the the "places" theme, I also chose to read Gothic novels for May and this is another one of them. I read the book for the first time a few years back and I remember staying awake the whole night because it was that good and I wanted to know how it ended. Well, the second time around I was rather annoyed by it and some of the characters. I just didn't like it as well (even though I had forgotten the ending, so that was a surprise to me again) and couldn't really get into it.
