"Reclusive author Vida Winter has created several 'biographies' for herself, each one different, but now she wants to tell the truth. When she asks Margaret Lea to write her biography Margaret is reluctant - not least because of teh family secrets she herself is guarding so painfully."

It wasn't THAT long ago I read this book, but I only remeber that Ms Lea worked in her father's sh bookshop and was asked to write the biogrpahy of this excentric elderly lady. The story telling was captivating and sometimes exciting, but if I remember correctly, some of the twists of the story were a bit "too twisted" for my taste. Still well worth a read.

This book came to me in January as slipperbunny wasn't at the meet. Ever since it has waited and waited for us three to hit the same BC meet. Sad... Time to to the necessary.

Well, I have to say I expected more from this book, having read rave reviews about it. It was just an OK book and there were flaws in the writing. I found it tedious in places and confusing in others, but I persevered! Still, it was only Diane Setterfield's first book so there is room for improvement and maybe I'll enjoy her second book better :D

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I received another copy of this book, so sending this one off to blups25, who would like to read it and who's living in India at the moment. I'm very pleased to be exchanging books with you...hope you enjoy this one!

ETA (My thoughts after reading the book):
It was an engrossing read...began in quite a captivating manner and sucked me in. I loved the author's crafting of the language, especially in the beginning, and the story unfolded interestingly...however, later the twists weren't as enjoyable and the book got ever-so-slightly tedious towards the latter half. Overall though it was a solid, enjoyable read.

Journal Entry 12 by blups25 at New Delhi, Delhi India on Monday, March 4, 2013
The book arrived in Delhi today, thanks a lot! I like reading biographies. And I love books about books. So I have high hopes for this one!

Edit after reading:
I read the book while travelling through Germany and it was perfect to while away the time on the trains. The story was gripping and enjoyable enough to keep on reading. The twists and turns were acceptable, even though every now and then they were at the edge of being too fantastic. I wouldn't join the overall praise cited on the cover. But it's solid entertainment, and that was all I asked for during my trip.

I left the book on the BC shelf.
