This was a very powerful story and one that you will not forget. Little Bee is a young Nigerian girl that meets a young married English woman while she is on vacation in Nigeria.
Horrible things happen and they do not see each other for two years. My book club will be discussing this book then I will be sending off to another BC'er as part of a trade.

I don't like being manipulated by a book, and based on the back cover of this one, I was sure I was going to be. The back cover says: "We don't want to tell you WHAT HAPPENS in this book. It is a truly SPECIAL STORY and we don't want to spoil it. NEVERTHELESS, you need to know enough to buy it, so we will just say this: This is the story of two women. Their lives collide one fateful day, and one of them has to make a terrible choice, the kind of choice we hope you never have to face. Two years later, they meet again—the story starts there. Once you have read it, you'll want to tell your friends about it. When you do, please don't tell them what happens. The magic is in how the story unfolds."

Creepy, right?

First of all, who is this "we"? What's with the ALL CAPS? Don't assume I'll tell my friends anything. And don't tell me what to tell or not tell them! (Yes, I do have issues with so-called authority.)

In spite of this off-putting marketing approach, I opened the book to Chapter One and started reading. And I was captivated by Little Bee's voice. Then I got to Chapter Two and Sarah's voice was just as appealing. I read and read and read and fell in love with Batman and I forgot to feel bad about being manipulated. There is some beautiful and clever writing in this book and I highly recommend reading the Author Q&A at the end.

Just don't tell the all-knowing "we" from the back cover that now that I've read "Little Bee," I *do* want to tell my friends about it. And even worse, I won't spoil it for them.
