Awesome!! If you like The Hunger Games, you will like this one, too. This book is a little more sci-fi and a little unrealistic at times, but over all a totally enjoyable book. I liked it so much that I bought the next two in the series in hardcover. My son liked them, too.
Product Description
In the blink of an eye.
Everyone disappears.
Gone.
Everyone except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not a single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Gone, too, are the phones, internet, and television. There is no way to get help.
Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day.
It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen and war is imminent.
The first in a breathtaking saga about teens battling each other and their darkest selves, gone is a page-turning thriller that will make you look at the world in a whole new way.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
taking to the march YA meeting.
It's one am and I read this all in one sitting. I'm looking forward to reading the next book, "hunger" when I get the opportunity. The premise is really imaginative and there were aspects of the plot that reminded me of Westfield's Midnighters series. I'd reccomend this series to fans of that series and visa versa.
To the finder:
Calgary has an active group of BookCrossers that meet to swap books and discuss book crossing every second Saturday of the month at 11am at the Joshua Tree Cafe on Edmonton Trail. We always love to meet new crossers, so please join us any time you like!

I loved the Hunger Games and the Midnighters series so this book should be a winner. Thanks.
I liked the premise: overnight everyone over 15 is poofed, and the clock is ticking on the 14 year olds left as they scramble for control. I see the similarities to the Hunger Games and Midnighters series except for what I think is lacking for me in this book. In the previous series mentioned, the characters were well-drawn with histories, and I cared about what happened to them, which in turn, heightened the drama or suspense for me. In this book, the characters were names with little backstory to their connections, making an eventful storyline less compelling to me.
The author is married to K A Applegate, and they have co-authored the Animorphs, Remnants, and Everworld series, which may explain some of the mutant weirdness. :)

I took the book to a mini Meetup tonight at Chinook.
Picked this up at our extra meeting this month. I am adding it to the TBR mountain.

This one took me a little bit of time to get into but once I did, it was excellent. I love the science fiction elements... Taking this to March's meeting. If it doesn't go home wth anyone, it will be left on the shelf.

Picked up at the March meeting.
Kids in charge - hmmm. Mind you - sometimes adults in charge is scary. Some unusual twists in this. Makes you wonder how on earth they come up with the ideas. Kept me turning the pages.
I am taking this to the meeting at the Joshua Cafe tomorrow to be passsed on to someone or left on the bookshelf. I'm sure this will be snapped up.
Picked up at the April Calgary BC meeting.
Returned to the Calgary BookCrossing meeting due to overwhelming numbers of books.
Picked up at the May Calgary Book Crossing Meeting.

Today I went to the Calgary Bookcrossing meetup with the intention of leaving my books there and come home with an empty bookbag. Yeah Right! That is ok because I got some of my old books back that I really do have to read; some books for my herchellettes to read while camping and some books that really look too good to pass up. Thanks everyone
My 13 yr old daughter just devoured this book and loved it! I had to pry it from her fingers so that she would go to sleep on a school night. Bringing back to the group at the next meetup.
My daughter really enjoyed this book, so I am very happt to return this book back to the group
I picked this up at the May Calgary Bookcrossing meeting and I've heard a lot of good things about it. I'll try to get it back in a reasonable time frame.
This was a very gritty, in depth look at the idea of a world with no adults. There was a really impressive range of characters all of whom were very distinct.
At long last, this is coming back to the Calgary Bookcrossing Group!
Picked up at bookcrossing dinner with DendriticTrees. It was great seeing everyone during the holidays!
Enjoyed the overall concept, as well as the main characters! I still found some of the characters too annoying for my tastes, and children left on their own to reconstruct some kind of society always seems to irk me in some way or another. I thought on a whole the book resolved nicely, and I'll have to see about finding out what the thing which was revealed at the end actually is.
Thanks for the interesting read.
Thanks for the interesting read.
Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing July meet-up. I'm wary of any whiny teenagers that might be in this book, but the premise sounds super fun, so I will just plough through any teenaged angst.
I quite liked the idea of the kids trying to keep a society together in the face of all this adversity. I wish the book had more of that. Instead, it chooses to focus more on the power play between Sam and Caine and these emerging super powers. That's fine, but kids being jerks to each other gets kind of boring after a while. I like to think that 14 year olds would be nicer to each other if their world suddenly changed, but I haven't been 14 in a very long time, so maybe all teenagers are this annoying now. I wasn't left with a strong desire to keep reading the series, so I looked up what happens in the rest of the series, and wow, this series is totally bonkers. Though, it sounds like there is more society building in the following books, so maybe I'll read the rest at some point.
Passing on this book to the next reader at the Calgary BookCrossing September meet-up.
picked up at the Calgary August meeting
Holding on to this one for the next reader.
