Far from the Shogun’s court at Edo, Most Honorable Investigator Sano Ichiro begins the most challenging case of his career. Upon the insistence of his strong-willed and beautiful wife Reiko, Sano arrives with her at the emperor’s palace to unmask the murderer--who possesses the secret of kiai, “the spirit city,“ a powerful scream that can kill instantly. A high Kyoto official is the victim. Treading carefully through a web of spies, political intrigue, forbidden passions, and intricate plots, Sano and Reiko must struggle to stay ahead of the palace storm--and outwit a cunning killer. But as they soon discover, solving the case means more than their survival. For if they fail, Japan could be consumed in the bloodiest war it has ever seen...

A legendary land comes alive in this compelling murder mystery set in seventeenth-century Japan. Filled with finely drawn characters and suspenseful plot twists, The Samurai’s Wifeis a novel as complex, vivid, and artful as the glorious, lost world it portrays.

I'm intrigued by the premise of a samurai detective; might boost it up Mt. TBR....
Thanks megami-no-ushi.

I enjoyed this fast-paced murder mystery set in ancient Japan. The plot was complicated, and while I had my suspicions as to the murderer, I couldn't put all the different parts of the puzzle together. The historical information of Japanese society was interesting, and didn't slow the pace of the mystery. Thanks for the great book, megami-no-ushi.

So I was told that this was a good book for me as I love mysteries. Only trouble is I am a picky mystery writer and prefer books with out weird names and places - more familiar North American! Not historical stuff. So will see if I can get into it.

This was an enjoyable murder mystery. I liked the random bits of Japanese history, and even Chinese history, that I recognized~ However, the mysteries became a bit obvious before it was time to reveal the solutions.

Thanks for the cool read!

Today I went to the Calgary Bookcrossing meetup with the intention of leaving my books there and come home with an empty bookbag. Yeah Right! That is ok because I got some of my old books back that I really do have to read; some books for my herchellettes to read while camping and some books that really look too good to pass up. Thanks everyone
I took this one because I really thought that it was on my wishlist, but I was wrong, and now I have yet another TBR.
