My secret santa present! I've not watched Dexter, but I have lots of friends who like it so I'll give it a try :-)

This is an omnibus of the first three Dexter novels ( of which there are at least 5). I thought I'd give the first one a go, and see how I felt about the next two - and low and behold I've read all three in fairly quick succession! I think Dexter grew on me (a little worrying given he's a psychopath!) over the three books. I did have a bit of trouble with the one-dimensional portrayal of the women in the book - Dexter's GF Rita in particular ( his sister Deb is a bit more interesting), but I guess it could be argued that we are seeing both through Dexter's eyes and that's how he sees them. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by these. Not sure I enjoyed them enough to specifically seek out others in the series, or watch the TV show, but I'd read more if they came my way.

This has been reserved by jennymidget in the OzVBB so I'll probably pack it up over the weekend and get it on it's way!

Thanks KLL! I have the first Dexter book (haven't read it yet though) and have had trouble getting my hands on the others - this helps so much!

Reading this one while watching my way through Season 1 of Dexter - and I'm not usually of the opinion that TV adaptations could ever be better than their book originals, but I think Jeff Lindsay's prose detracts from what are otherwise very good stories, and make Dexter seem more cuckoo and less threatening (especially Book 3, which I didn't enjoy much at all, so silly). I think I'll probably track down the rest of Dexter's adventures from the public library, but this one's not a keeper series for me.
