Journal Entry 1 by oppem at Hermiston, Oregon USA on Thursday, July 28, 2011
"....A remarkable telling of an unremarkable life...." So says the Detroit Free Press and it just about sums up my feelings about this book. You HAVE to read this book all the way to the end to get the real feeling for what the author was trying to achieve... half way through, I was wondering what all the fuss was about - Pulitzer Prize-winner in 1995 / 1001 books you should read before you die !!!!!. By the end I realised it was quite a "remarkable book..." I especially loved the passages relating to Daisy's last years of life - it was written with such compassion & understanding... one could almost feel that you were actually getting inside Daisy's, slowing decaying body - a body who's mind was still intact, looking at the world from the inside.

What an *incredible* book. To prove that Bookcrossing does indeed increase book sales, I'm about to order it on Amazon - one of those books that as soon as I'd finished it, I wanted to read it again, want my partner to read it, my Mum to read it etc. Thanks oppem for the ring! Have pm'd Icila for an address.
