Journal Entry 1 by Kimmi from Kelowna, British Columbia Canada on Sunday, November 21, 2010
This book was good but not "wowee" as the other members of my bookclub thought! The writing was great and I thought it was amazing how it really felt to be from the perspective of a 5 year old but the story wasn't as gripping as I hoped. From the jacker sleeve: "To five-year-old Jack, Room is the world... It's where he was born. It's where he and Ma eat and sleep and play and learn. There are endless wonders that let loose Jack's imagination - the snake under Bed that he constructs out of eggshells; the imaginary world projected through the TV, the coziness of Wardrobe beneath Ma's clothes, where she tucks him in safely at night, in case Old Nick comes. Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it's the prison where she's been held since she was nineteen - for seven long years. (...)" Being offered as a ring as there are lots of people who want to read this book.

I read this for my book club this month. It's a pity I went into the book knowing the background story, and thus miss out on the moment of realization of what is actually happening. It's hard to review without spoiling the plot for the next reader. The "after" part is longer than I expect, I expect it to be the ending, but it happens half way through, and is actually the part I enjoyed the most. The author did take her time thinking out what the reactions and feelings of the characters will be, and many little details that I wouldn't have thought of, that make the story real. I like the sweet and tender ending too. It's an excellent book for the book club as there are plenty to discuss.

Room has arrived.Thank you, Azuki, for your generosity in sending such a large book such a long distance, from Miami,Florida to British Columbia Canada. Ironically, the book began its travels in my province,in a city where two of my daughters live. I think I will be placing Room quite high on my list TBR

I couldn't wait. I set aside the book I was reading and dived right in to this one. Wow, what a story. I kept going back to it when I should have been doing something else. What an imagination the author has to create a book like this. It needs more readers but is a big heavy book, expensive to mail so I will probably wild release it. But first I will let a daughter and a sister or two read it before it goes back out into the world. Thank you Azuki for sending it to me.
