1962 Wings Press hardcover, with dust jacket, of the collection of selected editorials, up to 1960, from "Wings, A Quarterly of Verse." The author was once the long-term editor of the quarterly, and daily feature poetry writer for the San Francisco Examiner, and New York literary critic. This book upholds the timeless values in poetry against the modern forces of fragmentation, dissociation, confusion and sheer prose that have spread chaos over the face of experimental poetry which began in the postwar baby-boom era. I found this copy yesterday in the free books pile on the porch of Montclair Library.

Edit August 16, 2018: This was a really terrific short collection of essay to make the point that modern so-called poetry is really just prose text - fine for what it is, but dressing it up in prose form is just silly and pretentious. I loved the political incorrectness of it. And there are some great examples, of the mess that modern poetry has become, and the majesty of what it used to be in the skilled techniques of presentation and rules, so that the reader can compare and contrast to form his own opinion. Great stuff. I currently have this ranked at #1231 on my ranked list of best-read books lately, which just works out a bit low because this book is tad short, at less than 90 pages.
