This touching, funny, heartwarming and true story will become an instant Christmas Classic. In the late sixties, New York Times bestselling author Andy Andrews thought he was having a very good Christmas. He got the Incredible Edible Machine and the G.I. Joe he asked for. He even got a white belt. He also got socks from his Aunt Jane--unarguably a very lousy Christmas gift. How could he know that those lousy socks would change Christmas and him forever.

Includes a CD with the author's performance of Socks.

As I was putting away the box with your wonderful gifts, I realized that there was something else hidden under the packing peanuts! I should have known! It looks like a great story. Johnnie and I like to have a book to read aloud during the holidays, and I think we will use this one--we are suckers for nostalgia. Thank you so much for the book and the journal.

I have to tell you a funny bit. In the paper this morning, there was store saying that Rock em, Sock em robots was being re-introduced to lucky children everywhere. That is a toy from my past that has some serious implications. The neighbor boy had one, and it looked like the most fun toy I had ever seen. He never let me play with it, because I was a girl. Which is odd, because I played football with the boys and no one ever stopped me. I think he knew how much I wanted to play and was just being mean. ;-) Anyway, when I opened up this book to get the BCID, the first thing I saw was a picture of the Rock em, Sock em robots!!! I was meant to read this book!!! ;-0

Thank you so much for sharing this sweet little book with me, TexasWren.
My favourite thing to get at Christmas is socks, soft, cozy, bright coloured socks.
Again, many thanks for your unexpected package filled with joy and love.
Have a wonderful Christmas and rest!

Ok....I found book #2 in the "Secret Santa" stash of great things from Herchelle. I just have to figure out...do I want to listen to the audio first, and read second, or the other way around? I think I'll read it...then while we drive into Toronto on Sat., for a number of Xmas drop-offs and drop-ins, I will pop it into the car's CD player and surprise Donfiction. BTW, I hear pretty soon they are going to STOP making cars with CD players! Boo, hiss! I am an analog girl, and I still own a ton of CD's, which I love. ('Not a fan of Spotify, Amazon, or big box stores, or cars with so many digital options, you are constantly flummoxed.) OK, that's my Xmas rant over. Thanks so much for including this adorable book, Herchelle. I need an hour of cozy, undisturbed time to savour each page, and must find it before Saturday!

Such a lovely (and at times fun) story. Our family opted to donate $$ to a Christmas Hamper program for needy families vs. give each other presents we really don't need. It was great to read this book in light of that. I will pass it on to a family member when we gather for our Xmas meal.

Well....after saying I'd pass it on....I ended up holding onto it for another Xmas! 'Passing it on to two very good pals today, and hopefully, it will continue to "make the rounds" and delight people (perhaps it will make its way to a Little Free Library!).
