The Last Airbender: Prequel: Zuko's Story
2 journalers for this copy...
The local Comic Store is holding a 50-percent-off sale for all of their manga during the month of November, so I'm taking advantage! I'm even picking up second copies of some books I already have - so much for saving money, right?
This one's a manga based on a film based on a manga series, sort of a fill-in-the-back-story version for one of the more interesting characters, the troubled (to say the least!) Prince Zuko. It shows how Zuko received the burn scar on his face, and how he wound up roaming the world in search of an Avatar who hadn't been heard of for a century... Since I'd already seen most of the anime series before I read this, I was already firmly on Zuko's side; if this is your first taste of the "Airbender" series it might seem a little one-sided, but I hope it'll tempt you into checking out the anime!
[You can see more about the Avatar: The Last Airbender series on its TV Tropes page here.]
*** Edited to add: this Order of the Stick strip includes a reference to the parentally-inflicted burn-on-the-face (as well as a parentally-inflicted loss-of-hand, a la Star Wars); I laughed out loud when I read it!

I'm adding this book to k00kaburra's Manga bookbox, which should be on its way to the next in line, BCer emmejo in New York, some time tomorrow. [I'll post the delivery-confirmation number in the forum thread after I've mailed the box.] Enjoy!
Oh god, that comic you linked was awesome, GoryDetails. XD
Okay, so I haven't seen the movie but I've watched the anime. I can't believe I didn't notice Zuko's short hair until I read a review on Goodreads! But yeah, that was weird because in the anime the strict hairstyle and having it cut signified a lot along his journey, in my opinion. The other weird thing...was Iroh. He talked like Iroh, acted like Iroh...yet his looks were unlike Iroh. Tall, skinny, dreadlock-type hair. Weird. But still, I really enjoyed reading this story that added a bit more to Zuko's story. The art is great too.
I'm snagging this from the manga/graphic novel bookbox. Thanks!
